I’m Ellen, Owner & Interior Designer at EP Design Studio in Central California.
I specialize in full service furnishing projects, and because I’m sourcing for client homes, I see firsthand what quality furniture truly costs in today’s market.
As with many professional interior designers, I primarily source through to-the-trade companies - furniture manufacturers and brands that sell exclusively to designers and retailers. Many popular retailers also carry some of these trade vendors’ products. By working with trade accounts, I’m able to see each product’s MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price), which is the price that you, the buyer, sees when purchasing goods. This knowledge helps me educate my own clients on what a solid & realistic furniture investment looks like.
I originally created this Furniture Budget Guide to help my clients understand the true cost of furnishing a home with new quality pieces. Most people don’t shop for furniture often, so it’s completely normal to experience sticker shock, especially with recent 2025 tariff changes affecting imported furniture. Many “budget-friendly” furniture retailers manufacture overseas, which means their pricing may increase as new tariffs roll out.
As a result of that and a shift in interior design trends, I’ve noticed that more homeowners are choosing to invest in better-quality furniture that lasts. Because of this, I’m making my Furniture Budget Guide available to everyone - completely free!
